Kaiser Permanente health fair draws record crowd

Denver, CO – Nearly 3,000 Coloradans without health insurance received free care at the 8th annual Neighbors in Health health fair given by Kaiser Permanente on Sunday, August 8, 2004. That is the most number of participants ever to register for the one-day health fair.

"More than 700,000 Coloradans have no health insurance," says Juan Miranda, Medical Director of Kaiser Permanente's Clinica de Familia. "Kaiser Permanente is committed to giving back to our community and addressing this very serious problem in our state. We also think it's important to provide health care in a bilingual fashion for our growing Hispanic community."

People began lining up hours before the doors opened just for a chance to take advantage of a range of services, including vision screening, dental care, immunizations, women's and children's exams, diabetes and cholesterol screenings, and more. The fair was held at Kaiser Permanente's Skyline Medical Offices in Denver.

The event was sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, in partnership with Colorado Children's Automobile Safety Association, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Colorado Pathology Consultants, Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, Visiting Nurse Association, Univision Channel 50, Telefutura Channel 36, Radio Tri-Color 1090 AM, and Radio Romantica 92.1 FM.

Kaiser Permanente is a nonprofit health plan and the largest private health care provider in Colorado. It is rated among the top ten accredited health care organizations in the country for clinical quality by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Kaiser Permanente cares for more than 418,000 members in the Denver/Boulder and Colorado Springs areas.
