Kaiser Permanente helps doctors develop action plan for incorporating new heart research into patient care

Englewood, CO – On Friday, May 7, health providers will walk away from the Second Colorado Cardiovascular Health Summit with a plan of action for improving patient care related to heart disease.

The summit, Identifying Barriers and Activating Change, will feature keynote speaker Darwin LaBarthe, MD, MPH, PhD, associate director of Cardiovascular Health Policy and Research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), who will talk about the latest research on heart disease and related diseases.

"Heart disease is the number one killer of Coloradans," says John Merenich, MD. "That's why Kaiser Permanente is dedicated to doing everything we can to help our community solve this serious problem."

Merenich and three of his colleagues at Kaiser Permanente—Michael Chase, MD, Susyn Plushner, PharmD, and Paul Estabrooks, PhD—will be featured presenters at the conference. Kaiser Permanente is a major sponsor of the summit. All four providers are available for interviews before or during the summit.

Kaiser Permanente Colorado is rated number one in the country for cholesterol management, a key factor related to heart disease, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Providers who attend, including doctors, nurses, weight management specialists, diabetes care managers and more, will receive CME credit and will develop an action plan outlining specific ways to incorporate new information into their own practices. The conference will take place at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center in Englewood.
