Patient appeal supported by Kaiser Permanente

Denver, CO – A patient requesting a referral for a kidney transplant has received support for his request from the Kaiser Permanente appeals department. The appeals team reviewed the request that was initially denied and after lengthy investigation and conversation with experts approved his request, granting permission for a kidney transplant.

“This area of medicine is changing so fast that we want to support our patient’s desire to help the medical community answer what’s currently unknown about kidney transplant in HIV+ patients,” said Dr. John McGrory, physician reviewer and internist.

The patient now will work directly with the transplant program at the University California San Francisco in preparing for the transplant.
