Kaiser Permanente and Project PAVE honor safe schools

Denver, CO – At time when we are hearing more and more about bullying, harassment, and violence in our schools, Kaiser Permanente and Project PAVE are honoring three area schools with exceptional commitments to keeping kids safe.

The winning schools were selected for their team approach to school safety that actively involves students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members. These schools are models for our community. They clearly demonstrate that a comprehensive and sustained effort involving social skills education, peer and adult mentoring, parent education, early intervention with at risk students, and after school programs can create a safe and civil environment that supports academic achievement for all students.

East Middle School of Aurora Public Schools has been selected as this year's outstanding safe school in the Denver metro area. Kaiser Permanente awarded East Middle School $3,000 to continue their outstanding safe school programming initiatives. Barney Ford Elementary School in Denver and Smoky Hill High School of the Cherry Creek School District also received top honors in their grade level categories. Both of these schools were awarded $2,000 from Kaiser Permanente.

As a local, nonprofit health organization, Kaiser Permanente believes it's important to give back to the community by participating in and supporting initiatives like the Safe School Community Awards. Project Pave and Kaiser Permanente are committed to improving the lives and health of our young people through supporting safer schools.
