News release: Colorado - Denver/BoulderApril 29, 2002 For more information, call: New finance VP named for Colorado region Denver, CO – Rick Newsome has been appointed vice president of finance for Kaiser Permanente's Colorado region. He replaces Ken Hunter, who in December became chief financial officer for all Kaiser Permanente regions outside of California. Newsome will oversee financial operations for the Colorado region, which cares for more than 400,000 patients in the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs. He will report to Chris Binkley, the region's president. Newsome was chief operating officer of Care Choices, an HMO in Farmington Hills, Mich. Prior to that, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Private Healthcare Systems, Inc., in Waltham, Mass. He served as regional controller of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northeast from 1989 to 1994. He also has been a consultant at Deloitte and Touche and at Ernst and Young. Newsome received his bachelor of science degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1976 and his master's in business administration from the University of Southern California in 1981. He is a certified public accountant and a certified management accountant. He will begin in his new role on May 1 and will be moving his family to Colorado over the summer. Kaiser Permanente is a nonprofit health care organization that serves the six-county Denver metro area and Colorado Springs. In the Denver metro area, care is provided by a coordinated team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, mental health counselors, and physical therapists. In Colorado Springs, Kaiser Permanente cares for its members through an affiliated network of community-based physicians and other health care providers.
