Kaiser Permanente Medicare program receives national award

Denver, CO – Kaiser Permanente's Senior Advantage Medicare program has been selected as one of the top 50 programs in the country. The program has been awarded the 2001 Senior Choice Gold Award by HealthMetrix Research, Inc., an independent managed-care research organization. This award recognizes the variety of services offered to Kaiser Permanente's Medicare members for a comparatively low out-of-pocket expense.

HealthMetrix Research, Inc. compared more than 200 Medicare HMOs across the country. The comparisons projected the annual out-of-pocket costs based on health status categories (healthy/episodic/chronic) and corresponding utilization of the most common HMO benefits (physician office visits, emergency or urgent care, hospital care, prevention care, and prescriptions).

Kaiser Permanente's Senior Advantage Program offers members a variety of plans in which Medicare beneficiaries can choose different Medicare options. Our members receive all of the benefits that the original Medicare plan provides, but we also offer additional benefits in the areas of pharmacy, dental, vision, chiropractic, travel, and fitness.

Government Programs Director Maureen Hanrahan says, "As a nonprofit organization, Kaiser Permanente strives to provide the highest quality and best value in Medicare benefits to our members. We are pleased that our product is receiving national recognition."

HealthMetrix Research Inc. delivers independent information to a national audience of managed-care organizations, health care providers, purchasers, and consumers. For more information on the award, connect to www.hmos4seniors.com.

Kaiser Permanente is Colorado's oldest and largest group-practice health maintenance organization, caring for more than 372,000 members in the six-county Denver/Boulder/Longmont metropolitan area and Colorado Springs.
